A few days ago in my journalism class we watched and read about an event that sparked the civil rights movement. The event was so gruesome that I was visibly upset about watching and hearing what happened. I don't really want to go into detail on here about the details.
Here is a short New York Times Article about it.
If you took the time to read it, you can get the gist of what happened. I know that I was not alive during that time and I will never know the atrocities that went on during that time period but that doesn't change the fact that my heart breaks and tares every time I learn more about it. Civil and Human rights have always been something very important to me through my life.
The way I see it is; we were born with rights as humans. These rights are ours and we can do with them what we want. I do also understand that if my rights bridge the rights of another person to cause harm and pain I must relinquish my rights. I have no right to ever put someone down for who or what they are. I love Christians, Muslims, Jews, atheists, gays, and straights as I should without bias and hatred until it is reveled to me otherwise. I will never understand killing someone just because they are a different color or like the same sex or the opposite sex of another color. Or dislike someone for what God they choose to pray to. These things are irrelevant to me and I have no understanding of how hatred can be bred. Love of God is love of man. I may not subscribe to any religious group or affiliation but that doesn't make me ill equipped to understand love for my fellow earthlings.
I try and stand up for people who are bullied and feel as if they have had something stolen from them by someone else. I will forever stand up against rape, molestation, and injustices.. Soul Murder is a real thing and I am victim. I am among billions of victims over many thousands of years. Some fight, some die, but together we show the world that we can't always win and we can't always get over it, but we can however, rise above if we see fit.
To all of my friends and family I want to say that I love you and I am open to your way of thinking and your way of life. I may disapprove of your actions and your way of thinking but I will never tell you that you can't think that or do that. You might lose me, but I will always worry and care for you.
